Project Proposal
Looking at the final projects completed by previous classes, was kind of intimidating for me. I found myself wondering, how can I compete with projects such as Falling Waters or The Center for Education and Ministry in Andover? Shaping a Memory by Jovan Tamisjevic was my favorite. It provided such a personal insight into his process. Maybe that can be my inspiration.
I'm making a humble proposal to model a humble dwelling. Although it's an unpretentious building, I'm hopeful it will provide more learning opportunities than are immediately apparent. And of course by modeling my own home, my completed project can be the basis to explore possibilities for expansion. From humble beginnings...
About 87 Lincoln - circa 1930
Realtors call it a ranch. I prefer to think of it as a bungalow, even if its more cozy than craftsman. The building inspector told me it was actually a cottage, and that the basement foundation was laid in later. My neighbor told me that this area of Tewksbury was originally called Mechanic's Park. Most of the cottages were sold to Italians living in the North End. To reach Mechanic's Park they took the train, and then walked from the the North Billerica station. Although I've been unable to document this story, the tangle of grape vines in my yard support the theory.
